EPFL has a rapidly expanding, internationally highly ranked doctoral program in Computer and Communication Science, offering

EPFL is ranked first in continental Europe in the area of engineering and computer science. It has an attractive campus, offering many sports activities. Lausanne is a lively and well-connected city in the center of Europe, close to the Swiss Alps.
Program requirements
The duration of the program is 4-5 years, and admission is on a competitive basis (52 students were admitted in 2008). The program is entirely in English and its usual start is in September. During their first year, PhD students take advanced courses, participate in research projects, and pass a qualifying exam in their chosen research area. They are expected to find a thesis supervisor by the end of the first year (sample open PhD positions). PhD students also participate in the teaching activities of the school as teaching assistants.
Application
At the time of enrollment in the doctoral program, a student must have a 4- or 5-year Bachelor's degree, or a Master's degree, with a strong background in computer science, communication systems, electrical engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related field. Candidates are invited to submit their application prior to January 15 for early admission, and at the latest by April 30.
