Postgraduate Scholarships at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
http://www.ece.ust.hk/admissions/admissions_fas.html

Postgraduate

Postgraduate awards in the form of studentships are allocated to qualified full-time MPhil and PhD students of the University to provide them with financial assistance during the course of their study. Awards are based on academic merit and the suitability of the applicant for the proposed program of study, as is the selection of applicants for admission to postgraduate studies. Recipients of studentships are required to engage in ancillary teaching and research duties in the Department, which supplement their formal degree programs. The nature of these assignments may change from time to time according to need. Non-local students should note that they are not allowed to work in Hong Kong , either part-time or full-time.

The Department has also allocated a number of postgraduate scholarships to encourage international students from outside Greater China to study in Hong Kong. They are allocated to qualified full-time MPhil and PhD students.

New Graduate Award for All International Doctoral Students at McGill University, Canada
http://www.mcgill.ca/gps/fellowships/midas/

Highlights:

new funds available for all* international doctoral students as of September 2007
approximately $8,000 per student, per year
automatically awarded to eligible students – no applications required
The Office of the Associate Provost (Graduate Education) is delighted to announce that approximately $2.25M in new funding is being made available to support international doctoral students. As of September 2007, each eligible international doctoral student registered full-time at McGill will be awarded approximately $8,000 per year. This will ensure that they pay tuition at the same rate as Quebec doctoral students.

While McGill has attracted many high-quality international Doctoral students in the past, they have traditionally been underfunded, since they are not eligible for Canada or Quebec research council awards. The McGill International Doctoral Awards (MIDAs) directly address this problem and contribute to McGill’s priorities of internationalism, increased graduate enrolment, academic excellence and service to society. MIDAs help us build on our achievement as the best public university in North America (Times Higher Education Supplement, 2007).

MIDAs is a pan-university initiative: resources for this award come from the University Administration, Faculties, academic units and individual researchers.

*Eligibility: All international (i.e. not Canadian or Permanent Resident) doctoral students registered full-time are eligible to receive a MIDAs award unless their fees (including the international tuition supplement) are being paid directly by an external source (i.e. governments, agencies, corporate sponsors, fellowships that include direct payment of tuition).

N.B. There is no application form. All students will be automatically assessed for eligibility, and the awards will be made automatically.

For further information, please contact Fellowships and Awards.

There are currently no tuition fees charged for studying in Sweden. This is regardless of which country you come from or level of studies.

However, in June 2008 the Swedish government announced that non-EU students will pay fees from 2010. There is no detailed information yet and the law has not been passed - this will take place in the autumn 2008.

No tuition fees

Finnish universities have no tuition fees for regular degree students - education is subsidised by the State through the Ministry of Education. This also applies to the international degree students and to exchange and visiting students as well.

Student Union fee
The Student Unions of the various universities, however, charge an annual membership fee to cover their activities. At the University Helsinki, the fee is c. €75 for the 2008-2009 academic year. Student health care contribution is included in this fee.

Please note that the health care contribution is not health insurance; it allows students to use the student health care facilities provided by FSHS (Finnish Student Health Service). The Student Union membership is obligatory for undegraduate and graduate students (i.e. those studying for their Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees). Postgraduate (Licentiate and PhD) students may join the Student Union if they wish. The International Student Services pay the fee for exchange student (coming to Helsinki through an exchange porgramme or agreenment). For health insurance information related to non-EU/EEA (third-country) citizens , see the Insurances Web page.

Estimated cost of living
All degree students have to pay for their books and other study materials as well as their accommodation and living expenses. The International Student Services pay the accomodation costs for exchange students. The total monthly living expenses of a single student average from €600 to €900 - depending on your spending habits.

The rent in a student dormitory and residence hall varies from €190 to €350 a month (in a single room). The rent for a family flat ranges from €450 to €859 a month.

Student status, and especially the Student Union membership, entitles students to various services at affordable prices as well as to an abundance of student discounts

GRADUATE FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Every Princeton Engineering Ph.D. and M.S.E. student receives full funding; in addition to a stipend, Ph.D. students are guaranteed a first-year fellowship from the University while M.S.E. students receive teaching and/or research assistantships. This level of support continues throughout the program, assuming progress is satisfactory.

What GRE scores do I need to be accepted?

There are no strict cutoffs or quotas pertaining to GRE scores and admission. Averages are reported in some university publications and media such as US News & World Report. The majority of scores for recently admitted students were > 550 on the Verbal and > 700 on the Quantitative, with specific results varying across departments and programs. Again, however, GREs are just one aspect of the application that are considered, so please do not let scores you perceive to be low discourage you from applying, as strengths in other areas can and regularly do compensate.
In addition, the Computer Science department strongly recommends a subject GRE test – please see the COS department’s Web site for more information.

Financial Aid

Q: What are my odds of getting financial aid if I am admitted to the PhD program?

A: Basically 100%. There are occasional exceptions where people are already in the area and do not require financial aid for various reasons. Since we do not have to fund such students, their applications are given a slight preference. So, if you have reasons not to seek financial aid, please indicate so on your application.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: What kind of financial aid will I get?

A: Nearly all first-year PhD students in the department are given teaching assistantships (TA). A few students are given fellowships, and a few start directly as research assistants (RA). By their third year, nearly all students are supported by an RA-ship from an individual professor.

Erasmus University Rotterdam offers several scholarships to the MPhil/Ph.D. students
http://www.eurogates.nl/en_holland_news/id/1168/

Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM) of Erasmus University Rotterdam offers several scholarships to the MPhil students. Excellent non-EU/EEA students accepted to the MPhil in Business Research programme can receive a scholarship of € 8,200 in the first year of their study.

In the second year of the MPhil paid research assistantships are available. In certain cases it is possible for EU students to receive a monthly scholarship from the Dutch government (i.e. IB Group). Please check their website for further information. Further information on scholarships can be obtained from Nuffic, please refer to their website.

For more information on the ERIM MPhil in Business Research please visit the website www.erim.eur.nl/doctoral

---------------

Erasmus Doctoral Programme in Business and Management

ERIM provides a five year doctoral programme that is focused on developing academic talent. The main goal of the programme is to enable promising students with the ambition to become a researcher acquire a pole position on the academic career market; in particular, to achieve a competitive profile, become part of the next generation of faculty at the top business schools in the world and develop into a "thought leader".

The doctoral programme offers a challenge of intellect and persistence, consisting of 2 years of advanced course work plus 3 years of dissertation work. This includes systematic coaching and academic personality development by leading academics. A balanced amount of time is also devoted to developing and strengthening teaching skills, which are indispensable for a succesful academic career. After completing the two years of course work each student receives a Master title; the PhD degree is awarded after defending the dissertation.
Candidates can enter the doctoral programme at three different stages; in the first year on the basis of a bachelor degree, in the second year on the basis on an MSc degree, and in the third year on the basis of a relevant MPhil degree. Selection criteria are challenging and only top students are able to enter the programme.
The precise amount and content of the course work depends on the candidate's specific background and individual profile. First-year students need to complete a course programme of 120 ects without getting any waivers. The course load for students who enter in the second year will be at least 60 ects, with some waivers for first-year courses.
Doctoral students are provided with financial aid during the five year programme. This consists of a combination of (partial) tuition fee waivers in the first year, scholarships in the second year and a regular employment contract for a doctoral student (3 years) in years 3 to 5.

For the year 2008 - 2009 Tilburg University has a maximum of 50 scholarships available for excellent international students who are admitted to a Master’s programme at Tilburg University (MA, MSc, LLM or MPhil).

All Tilburg University Scholarships for the academic year 2008 - 2009 have already been awarded to students. Tilburg University Scholarships include (for the academic year 2008-2009):

A partial tuition waiver of € 7.706,- for non-EEA students. Students pay only the low undergraduate fee of € 2.212,- instead of the high graduate fee of € 9.918,-. EEA students pay the same fee as Dutch students, which is € 1.565,-.
€ 5.000,- for the covering of living expenses for one academic year, both for EEA and non-EEA students.
To qualify for a Tilburg University Scholarship, candidates must fulfill the following admission requirements:

Candidates must have graduated with excellent results in their Bachelor's programme

If a student receives an external scholarship, fully covering tuition waiver and living expenses, the Tilburg University Scholarship (including tuition waiver and living expenses) will be canceled. If an external scholarship would be less then the Tilburg University Scholarship, the Tilburg University Scholarship will be awarded partially.

When you apply for a Master's programme at Tilburg University you will automatically be considered for the Tilburg University Scholarship Programme. If you meet the requirements for the scholarship the University will contact you and ask you to send two reference letters to start the scholarship application process. If you think you meet the requirements you can also include the reference letters with your Master's programme application to speed up the process.

Tilburg University Scholarships are awarded for one academic year. Candidates applying for one of the MPhil programmes have to apply for the scholarship again for their second year of the MPhil programme.

If the student should leave the programme prematurely, Tilburg University reserves the right to withdraw the scholarship.
